The HOME Inventory
The HOME Inventory guide is a set of well-established and tested tools for undertaking a standardised assessment of parenting and other aspects of a child’s home environment that directly impact on the child’s development by gathering a picture of their day-to-day experience.
There are four HOME Inventories, for children aged 0-3, 3-6, 6-10 and 10-14 years and twelve Disability Adapted HOME Inventories for children with disabilities covering ages 0-3, 3-6 and 6-10. The information to score a HOME is obtained by a one-hour interview and observation at home with the child and main caregiver. Because the approach is grounded in the day-to-day experiences of the main caregiver and child, a well conducted HOME will give you a picture of the child’s world from a perspective that is as close as possible to the child’s own.
