Rachel studied for her PhD and then trained as a clinical psychologist at the University of Liverpool and worked in the NHS in psychology services for children and families. At the University of Manchester, she ran the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology before becoming Professor of Child and Family Psychology and Head of the School of Psychological Sciences. Her research on parenting and families has a particular focus on young children’s behaviour problems as a prevention strategy in different contexts, including applications in low resource settings. She is one of the team that developed “In My Shoes” and associated apps, and has carried out research on their use in paediatric settings.
